(no subject)
Dec. 2nd, 2007 11:53 amOkay, another non-locked post about the renaming of the MCR/FOB/related fandom.
First attempted renaming was "ebandom", which has as advantages brevity and is easily understood. It's drawbacks are the association of the term "emo", which a lot of us are trying to distance from, or just don't think applies to some of our bands.

sidewinder's lj, "media bandom". This term comes from the fact that of all the band fandoms, this one is closest to media fandom. Just like popslash was. (a few media fen have said that popslash was the *only* acceptable non-media fandom, which is just weird and bitchy, IMO.) This is not as brief, but is discriptive and considering how much internet media covers our bands, it might be a good term.
Other terms that have been thrown out there: "Six degrees of Pete Wentz's dick"-NICE.
Here's my offering: "No fourth wall bandom". Since all of us in this fandom know there's a better than average chance of the subjects of our work sitting around on the tour bus, reading it.
This discussion has really changed my perspective. I joined the bandom awards, but don't want to display a banner because now the term "bandom" seems so insensitive.
