The weekend ended up being so… ugh. But especially yesterday where I was drained and anxiety ridden and ended up having to skip dnd cause I didn’t feel peoplely in the slightest. I also ended up going to bed early but not sleeping for like… three hours +. Which…ugh.

We’re heading out in about 30 minutes (from now) so we should be able to look around the place near the hospital (not that there’s much there, I’d still rather have stopped off in town to check forbidden planet but…)

Mail did arrive this morning so at least we didn’t miss out. It was a doctor who vinyl from eBay mum decided to get, Max Warp, an 8th Doctor audio which has Duncan from Blue (and oddly it’s a misprint it’s meant to be a splatter vinyl but it’s a solid orange instead). Also came is the blu rays I got from that hmv offer I mentioned weeks back. I settled on getting: Broadcast Signal Intrusion, Obex, Something In The Dirt and We’re All Going To The World’s Fair. Once everything is settled I’m gonna set a day and that’s gonna be a day to weekly go through the blu rays. (It might be a midweek day cause of the Friday cinema trips planned for the next three weeks).

I still need to go through the things I planned to watch too but getting the appointment threw me off so much.

(I had considered getting some Who audios from the big finish warehouse clearance but again, the appointment stuff threw up me off and I missed out, damnit)

I did end up watching The Twin Dilemma Saturday, finishing the Doctor Who season 21 boxset (the episodes anyway, there’s two special features discs including the tales of the tardis version of Earthshock which I might watch the weekend).

Twin is consistently rated as one of the worst Who eps and… yeah it’s not the best but I dunno if I’d say it’s the worst either. There are issues with it which do make it stand out as bad, mostly to do with the sixth doctor. His regeneration has made him erratic, even violent and while I can see what they were going for with it, it’s obviously a mistake (especially strangling Peri). It doesn’t help that, since this is the last ep of the season, this is the impression you’ve got of Six, without other eps to soften him right after.

There’s also the wardrobe with Six’s ridiculous outfit (his actor had wished for a black outfit to blend in but was overruled). But not only that both Peri and a one of character go in and end up in questionable outfits too.

I did like Lang, the police character that ends up coming along for the ride and there were some nice scenes at the police Center when the titular twins were kidnapped (shame they essentially give up on the pursuit) and there’s nice model work. I did like the Jacondans design, but didn’t read that they were meant to be birds at all (probably due to the lack of wings). And there is a nice scene at the end where the doctor loses his mentor. And, even though the doctor’s attitude is terrible it is acted well at least.

But it is pretty telling that this was an ep with behind the scenes issues. (The story needed to be written, they had issues with studio time and prep as a result) and it’s one of those where the issues really show sadly.

I should rank the eps now I’ve finished the boxset but I don’t really have the time to ponder on it. I’d say Resurrection Of The Daleks was probably my fav of the season though.

Off now though. I don’t expect to have any answers, I just expect to be waiting around and be tired and annoyed.

So yesterday I was pretty much unsettled after getting the letter so couldn’t really do anything. Focus was off the entire day so all I managed was mindless gaming things on Fortnite.

I think Leia sensed the bad vibes cause when I went to bed she curled up behind my head and purred like crazy. (The purring is standard the placement is new)

This morning right before I was due to go out I had another letter (or rather two because for some reason they send these in pairs). I have another appointment, same day an hour earlier. Which of course sent mum crazy. We had settled, yesterday (and her idea) on heading to Wolverhampton before the hospital but now she wants us to go straight there which ugh. I didn’t wanna talk about it when I was just about to head out though, but ugh. Hopefully though that does mean I only have two things at those set times and that’s it which be good.

I did head to town today cause I just needed to get out. I got Starburst magazine and new Fantastic 4 from Smiths and the crow inquistor Funko from Smyths (an exclusive, which was reduced which was a surprise)

I was debating between just seeing Obsession and seeing Rose Of Nevada too so I decided on seeing both, of course when I got to the cinema I found my phone was out of charge but I had my pad to use my pass. I should get the card, I wish there was a way of doing it.

Between films (instead of after like I planned) I went to Burger King and got another Mandalorian cup, so that’s two down. I still haven’t got the one I want most but this one has Grogu which looks cute.

I did find out from the cinema that they are getting something for The Mandalorian but they dunno what yet.

The horror trailers were mostly the same, which is odd cause you think with Obsession and Hokum out they’d have added at least one more to replace them but nope.(though Passengers is now the newer trailer and confirmed to be coming to the cinema with a standee). I do wanna see evil dead burn now I know Tyler’s actor is in it.

I missed some of the Rose Of Nevada trailers. As I came in Disclosure Day was playing which I’m curious about. Then there was A Private Life which was French, but seems to be a murder mystery/investigation thing so I’m curious. Tuner I’d seen in the coming soon on the cinema but not seen much about. It’s got kinda heist vibes.

Anyway thoughts on both films under the cut. (Note there will be slight spoilers for both so avoid if you’re gonna see the )

Next cinema trio will be one week from today to see The Mandalorian And Grogu! Yippie! Since I’m going with mum I dunno if I’ll see a second film, but if I do it’ll be probably Passenger depending on times, (since I’m going to the first showing at 10 am, much like I did with Fantastic 4) but we’ll see when showings go up

I got to the station just as the train was about to leave but the conductor person saw me arrive and let me on. So I got home in good time.

I’m gonna bundle up and… I dunno what my plan is tonight. Maybe The Pitt or finishing the Androzani special features. It depends on mood/tiredness.

Wednesday didn't turn out exactly as I'd planned.

Went to class for 9 and had a talk about the role of stress in terms of healthy eating, then the usual exercise session. My friend attended the Wed class for the first time in a while so we partnered up which was great as some nattering and laughing helps the circuits go fast. Nothing new or unusual that Rosie had us do, but we were doing goblet squats when she came up to us and said if we wanted to go spicy go from a goblet squat, to an overhead one-armed press with the weight, then swap hands in a clean dip movement, so I tried it and man, my coordination got up and walked out of the hall *g*

From there we were supposed to go home and get changed before going to an appointment in Sunderland, except it turns out the appointment was actually a telephone one, so no need to go into town that early. Got that done and would have been able to chill out except Kayleigh had asked if we could pick Megan up at the vets at 4:30 as she'd been in and sedated for a skin scrape and biopsy.

Now, that would be cutting things tight as we had a table booked at a restaurant next to the theatre for 5:30, but agreed thinking it shouldn't take that long to get her and take her back to Kayleigh's. And it didn't, except when I was opening the door, juggling the cat carrier, meds, and discharge instructions one of Kayleigh's other cats got out, and I spent time chasing him to get him back inside. Thankfully, Lucy and Bodhi had come home by that point so they took over the chase, and in the end we were only five minutes late, after amazingly getting a great, and very close to the theatre, parking spot.

Poor Megan though, she's got a skin condition that is focussed on her face and she's had to have steroid and antibiotic injections for years now to keep it under control. Which obviously, isn't ideal, and then to top it all, recently, those started not to work either leading her to look like this. I'm only linking and not putting the vid in my post as her face looks so bloody and sore. The vet wanted the biopsy etc to ensure a new treatment they're thinking of will help, but until then Meg has to be weaned off the steroids before starting this new treatment in three weeks. It'll be off brand, and something designed for dogs, but the vet does think it'll help. I hope so anyway as she's been through so much, she was a rescue when mam got her, then had to move to Kayleigh's when mam died, and she just deserves a chill and itch free life.

So, left there, and spent time worrying that Daniel was back inside -- they did get him back in btw, and got to the restaurant just a little late. Like the last few times we've eaten there, we were seated on the window tables which are on a high ledge with the chairs being the actual window ledge and the tables tall barrels. But, they were comfortable enough, and as always, the food was delicious, the service great -- though they did charge for a salt and pepper pizza and not salt and pepper fries meaning the bill was much higher than expected, but that was soon sorted, and the atmosphere buzzing. Mainly because, with being literally next door to the theatre, it was full of theatre goers all looking forward to the show, and what a show The Choir of Man was!

This is getting long, so cut for details )

Yesterday I had an appointment booked with a tech who was coming to check our TV monitor. I'm a member of a service that sees what you watch, and then you get paid for that info. It tends to pay for Christmas which is great, but the monitor hasn't been picking up for a while so he was coming to change it for a new version.

I was up and about early to make sure he could access behind the TV easily, only to get a phone call 15 minutes before he was due to say he'd called in sick. Which couldn't be helped I know, but was frustrating. Then Pauline phoned asking if we wanted to go out for tea, her treat, and I wasn't about to say no.

So that's what we did, and the food and company was good, even though we were the only people in the restaurant the whole time we were there, which felt a little strange.

Now James has just messaged saying he's had a fall at work and is having to sit with an ice pack on his knee. No sign of them sending him home yet. He says he's fine, but we'll see I guess. I wouldn't care but literally this morning we were talking about how it's been months since he's needed time off sick. Talk about jinxing the situation.

So I was thinking of doing a post later but ughh.

So in the last post I mentioned chasing up the hospital appointment and we kept an eye on the phone the last days in case I heard anything back. This morning (about 15 minutes ago) mum called saying there was mail from the NHS, not one but two letters. Both said the same thing. I’ve got an emergency appointment…

But it’s on Monday. At 3:15.

Neither of those things are ideal exactly. Having the appointment be so late pretty much means coming back might be a nightmare (the last bus is 6:15 so if they keep be bouncing around I might miss it, especially since that’s not the direct bus from the hospital either). Being Monday isn’t ideal either. On one hand, it’s not the weekend, on the other it’s a few days away (and more issues). But the time is the bigger issue. If it was earlier in the day it wouldn’t be as bad but so late? Ugh!

It’s also messed up plans I was thinking of.

I was wanting to see Obsession, which comes out tomorrow, but the timing tomorrow is so off. It’s at 10:50 and 4 (and two later times but those are the ones I’d go for). The problem is finding a second film to watch to go with those slots. The problem is there’s not much I’d consider seeing. Theres Normal, which I don’t know much about but there’d be a 3 hour gap between them (and I’m not sure how I’d fill, it), there’s Rose Of Nevada which I’m don’t know much about either, but it’d be cutting it close. Then there’s Mortal Kombat II but I’m not sure I’d even like it and haven’t seen the first one.

Ironically I was thinking of just switching days to Monday, to see Obsession with Ciao UFO (which doesn’t have a showing tomorrow so it’s not an option) but now that’s not an option either.

(Also the Burger King voucher I hoped I’d use has vanished from the app and I thought that’d be good for a few days)

And just… ughhhhh.

(And also I’ve got no clue with this uni assessment and I was going to really look into it this morning but how can I when that came?I even just sent a message to my tutor and it just bounced back like ??)

I’m so annoyed by it all. I mean I should be glad to finally have something but why has it had to come so soon and at the worst time?

We're off to see The Choir of Man at the theatre tomorrow night. I'm looking forward to it as I do love a good feel-good singing heavy show. Plus, reading reviews, as it's set in a pub they have a bit of audience interaction going on -- if wanted, giving some people free pints of draft beer from the stage. Which is typical as we're in decent seats but James doesn't drink at all when driving, and I don't like beer. They should give out draft pop instead *g*

It'll be class tomorrow at 9am. Maybe anyway, Rosie cancelled yesterday's about an hour before start due to a family emergency so I'm not 100% sure if tomorrow will be on. Then we've got an appointment in Sunderland at 2:30, then the theatre at 7pm also in Sunderland, so it seems a bit pointless driving home between. So, I think what I'll do is come home and change after class, then go for tea in town somewhere after that first appointment.

Today I've been re-potting the tomato plants, at least some of them as I didn't have enough compost for all ten. But I've given the greenhouse a good tidy up and enjoyed the pottering out there. Especially when it started raining, there's something very lovely being in the greenhouse in the rain.

I've been catching up on some recorded shows, one of them being The Claudia Winkleman Show. I was enjoying it anyway with such great guests as Dan Levy, Phil Dunster, Cush Jumbo and Josh Widdicombe on the sofa. Then Mr Blobby turned up and Dan's reaction is amazing. He obviously doesn't get the legend that is Mr Blobby. Because Blobby And yes, he was very popular back in the day. Fun fact, when I used to go watch the Wasps Mr Blobby came to the rink and ended up breaking Paul Smith, the Wasps manager's, nose by barging him against the trophy cabinet *g*

The weekend ended up being more low energy than I expected. That was cause I woke up Saturday and mum had a fall messing outside (she’s fine thankfully but I’ve always told her not to do anything out there unless I’m downstairs to hear her) and then ugh. She decided that the best thing to do would be to argue. There’s stuff she wants doing in the house but, as always, she wants all of them doing at the same time. I tell her to prioritise them, or give me space to do them and it’s like I’m asking the world from her.

It’s frustrating cause this is a repeated thing that happens every few months but she doesn’t care to actually do these things.

Thus I came back from walking the dog, messed upstairs until I exhausted myself and stayed there all day and until lunch the next day.

Yesterday was also fairly uneventful, bar watching the next Doctor Who boxset ep (more on that later) but I didn’t do much of what I’d hoped this weekend. I only watched that and an episode of Ghost Files Saturday night (and the standard gaming stuff).

I did get credits rolled on Tomodachi life though there’s still things to do.i hope they add an update with more stuff (more quirks, more inventory space for people, more unlockables) but I need to add more people.

This morning was spent trying to chase up my hospital appointment (still no answers but had three different numbers to call). One of the calls even said I’d been discharged despite the referral and not being told. The third call did say that was wrong and to chase it up but still…

There was mail this morning, which was the rest of the comic book day comics (I’ve not read them yet or even checked them) and my second intentional 4K which was for Cold Storage. The hmv exclusive does have its own cover and a set of cards… but there’s no special features listed which is odd. Maybe there is something when I watch, but it’s annoying if there’s nothing, (Clown In A Cornfield was odd like that too).

Last night was the next in the Who ray run which was… Caves Of Androzani.

People consider this a classic and… I’m not entirely sure why. It’s so grim, virtually every character is unlikeable (and all but two people end up dead).

The Doctor and Peri land on the world of Androzani Minor. In the process of exploring they end up in a cave system and find out that this world produces a drunk, Spectrox, with life extending properties. However the facilities have been commandeered by a man named Sharaz Jek. Jek has been betrayed by a buisness an on Androzani Major and that’s led to a conflict. Oh and unrefined, the spectrox is toxic.

Like I said pretty much everyone in this is unpleasant. Much like Vengeance Of Varos (from the next season) it’s one of those eps that’s so grim you want it to end sooner. Sharaz Jek is kinda sympathetic as a man betrayed by someone he trusted (leaving him scarred) and his outfit does look good but… he spends a good chunk of time leering over Peri.

Morgus, the businessman is awful. He’s amoral, killing people just because they’re an inconvenience. And he has this… odd way of talking that’s… hard to describe. It’s kinda flat and very off putting (with random asides to camera too, again for some reason? Apparently the actor just did them not understand stage directions and they kept them in)

The only good parts are towards the end, both with Morgus. First his secretary telling him gleefully that she’s took over his buisness and ket the government know his crimes. Second it’s when he confronts Jek and ends up dead for his trouble.

The end of the ep has the doctor (after managing to get poisoned along with Peri at the start) dying of the poisoning, regenerating into the sixth doctor (oh boy) but at least the regeneration brings Tegan, Turlough, Nyssa and Adric back (oh and Kamleion’s there too I guess).

Gonna watch the special features tonight then the next ep (whenever that’ll be) is the last of the season, The Twin Dilemma. Is it as bad as people think? I guess we’ll see

[community profile] intoabar is open for sign ups again. I failed my assignment last year, but usually have a lot of fun with the challenge, so am thinking of joining again. Maybe anyway. I have about a week to decide.

We went to see The Sheep Detectives on Saturday, and man, it hit me right in the feels cut for spoilers )

Sadly, what doesn't have a feel good ending is the results of the local elections where Reform has done really well, including taking all posts available in my local area. I knew it would happen, and it really was a case of voting for the best of a bad lot. But Reform, and seeing that slime ball Farage gloating about taking Sunderland made me sick.

People on the local FB groups have been constantly complaining about how bad a job Labour has been doing, now lets see Reform do better. Somehow, I suspect they won't.

My nurse appointment went well last week, cut for medical talk, maybe verging on tmi )

Class went well on Wednesday, we were talking about the benefits of sleep, another topic I've gone through about three times now. Why it sticks in my mind though is we were talking about using devices like Fitbits to track sleep and everyone who had one checked their app to see their sleep hours the night before. Mine was 9 1/2 hours, and yeah, sleeping is one thing I'm usually okayat. But, even that was long for me.
