[Error: unknown template qotd]NOTHING. Nothing at all. The Joy of Gay Sex, complete works of the Marquis de Sade, The Communist Manifesto, books on Victorian murders-anything, everything. And all the "speculative fiction" any kid could want. A whole lot of book-banning raids get started by parents who have a horror of science fiction or fantasy, and think its' all Satanic. I think that's very sad.

I have read cases of book-banning frenzies that damn near got some people killed. It never ceases to amaze me how much fear people can have...in a book.

See I think there is a difference between high school library and public library. I feel the high school library should be geared more towards academics and less towards pleasure reading (whatever kind of pleasure that is) but I don't trust other people to ban books because it causes people to lose their mind (and in this case it wouldn't be banning, just shifting the focus of the bookshelves)

I understand there's a space issue and people would want to get the more academic books in, but the jr. high and high school libraries were a big lifesaver to me. And I did read a book about famous Victorian murder trials with female accused preprarators. It was educational, I learned a lot about the times!

As much as I loved my school library, I just see library after library filled with "fun" books and not much teaching them. It is really hard for me to assign research since it does involve them having to run around town in search of text
