[Error: unknown template qotd]Anne of Green Gables. A dreamer, a romantic, impulsive, someone who doesn't look before she leaps. A creative person who has a good heart and becomes more grounded as she ages.

The books are wonderful, and Anne's character is fantastic.

(I read somewhere not long ago that the Anne novels were unexpectedly very popular in Japan soon after their publication. There were many reasons given for this, one that Anne was an orphan and this was after the war, so a lot of children had lost parents. Another interesting reason was that Anne flouted adult authority and got away with it, which was an amazing taboo that kids loved.)

Pippi Longstocking. It's why the new place is getting named Villa Villekula.

I loved Pippi too. I wish I could be more like a little girl who can pick people up and put them in trees.

Hmmm, that's interesting. I never related much to Anne, but I did love the movies. I should probably go back and read the books. My sister LOVES her...I wonder if she felt like she related to her as well.

The odd thing is that most of my family and friends would say that I was a lot like her...all of those qualities you just described sound spot on. Maybe I didn't want to admit that I was just as impulsive? Heh.

Anne is a great character, to me. One of the most vivid in young adult lit. I love her massive stubborn streak-Gilbert pulls her pigtails in a faily attempt to flirt with her, and she busts her tablet over his head and declares war on him for years.

I'm sitting here trying to think of ANY female characters I read when I was young that I really related to. I can't seem to think of any! I do like Anne and her stubbornness. I read a LOT when I was young, but I don't know if I ever related strongly to the characters. Madeleine L'Engle's books, Narnia, babysitter's club, etc...I loved them all but none of the characters stand out in my mind as being so similar to me.

Although now that I think about it...Kristy from Babysitter's Club might be closest! Description on wiki: Kristy is known for her great ideas (mainly, The Baby-sitters Club), as well as her bossiness and a big mouth that can occasionally get her into trouble. Something of a tomboy, Kristy is usually in her "uniform" of jeans and a t-shirt, sneakers, and sometimes a baseball cap, and she loves sports, even coaching a softball team for little children, known as Kristy's Krushers, which includes many of the club's sitting charges. Yeah, that's pretty much right! Er, except for the sports! Substitute reading and being a nerd for sports, and that's me.
