Beat your ass and hide the Bible if God watching

Oh yeah, I'm in love with Kendrick's "Not Like Us". Wow.

So I've stayed away from here longer than I meant to. My depression was getting rough. Things have happened, not all of them good. I'm having sleep problems. But it's not as bad as it could be.

Evan just told me today that he's got training for a week, out of town. Not only did he forget to tell me, he forgot to get a hotel. I ask you. Oh well, not like it's Miami.

I need to get my car seen to, again. That's tomorrow. I'm going to rent a car. Here's hoping they have a sedan. I'm actually really annoyed that those are no longer much of a thing far as US autos are concerned. They're even retiring the Chevy Malibu.

Good news, I've seen my sister a few times. She just called me out of the blue one day to drive to her place (hour and a half away) and have lunch at her house. So I did. Then we went to a record store. I bought four of them.

I'm still writing fanfic, nothing stops that, even when my moods or pain is bad. So that's all right.

Sorry. It's been kind of busy over here. I dropped my car off at the shop, but haven't gotten a rental yet. We might have trouble with that, since there's a big cold front coming in. It will still not be as bad as other parts of the country, but I'm worried the power might go out.

I love it when I write something somewhat difficult/unhappy. Because basically all you can do is sit tight and wait for that story's people to show up. Well, been a few days, and I think the whump fans smelled the blood in the water. I'm very happy about this.

Bug has injured her leg. She's very athletic and she's about six years old now, so she tore some ligaments in her back leg. We're trying to keep her as still as possible, but it's not eacy.

I've been having back pain, so that's no fun.

And now it's two am. Ah well. Happy Labor Day to those that celebrate.

So Susan had her cancer surgery, and she didn't get a room. They kept her for observation on a gurney and then sent her home after 24 hours. When she got home (50 miles away from the 1st hospital), she had a seizure, and had to go to her local hospital to get treated. Now she's back home again.

Ain't no beds. Ain't no beds.

I wanted to come over, but now isn't the time. So I'm just on amazon trying to find a nice gift basket.

Got my pain block today, finally. They're backed up at the surgery clinic-I heard a nurse say that they were scheduled for 61 blocks today.

They had me get on my stomach, and I hate to admit it, but it hurt a lot and I screamed. Embarrassing. This was a full room too (see 61 blocks). But then they put me under, I woke up, I got snacks, and now I'm home. Evan got me a torta from the local Mexican place.

It will take a few days to a week to see if it takes, so wish me luck.

I'm going to my sister's for Thanksgiving this year. She's hosting me, Evan, mom, and her husbands family.

Hoo boy.

I don't mind Michael's sisters and their families, but his parents? They give white trash a bad name. They're awful-dishonest, sleazy, racist, selfish, you name it. How do I know this? Because Michael tells us. He knows his family is shit. This is why I give Michael a pass on a lot of things-it could be so much worse.

However, I just have to eat my food and not engage the crazy. Hope I can do it.

Had a weird interaction with a technician sent to inspect our heating and cooling until. For one thing, he kept getting inside, the last guy didn't do that at all. Then he kept asking me questions-was I married, ect. I finally told him he was getting too personal. Then he left, only to come back and asked if he'd left his keys! I told him I didn't see them, and didn't open the door. I'm so glad to have dogs.

I need to call and complain on him. I was out doing pre-Thanksgiving shopping so I didn't today.

Made the fourth batch of holiday cookies just now, and I don't even know who all I'm giving them too. So far I have chocolate with chopped Reese's mini cups, gingerbread (not really a cookie, but still yummy), the oatmeal/golden raisin/toffee bars mom likes, and the peanut butter/m&m/peanut butter m&nm cookies from today. Yay.

I'm thinking of making monster cookies, which are similar to the ones I made today, to use up the balance of m&m's.

Aaaand I fucked up the medication again.

Hi, it's nearly 5am here. I took my morning meds at night, then tried to take some of my night meds on top of it. And then I called poison control, because I took my blood pressure medication twice, plus other stuff that makes you sleepy.

Poison Control Lady told me to drink lots of water and be careful getting up from a lying position, then called me an hour later to check how I was. I was doing okay.

But now I can't sleep.

I'm writing. That's good. I always have heightened emotions when this shit happens, so I'm channeling it.

Been writing my goddamn ass off these past few days. I've been a part of the getyourwordsout community for-holy shit-about nine years. I didn't do so great last month-might be that surgery thing. I was about 7,000 words short. So I got a collection of quote h/c prompts that a friend gave me, and started to try to make it up before today.

I came really close, with over 5,000 words written in three days. Now I have a one-shot and a story in my small-town verse. I'm still at it. I've decided to see how far I can go on this prompt list, and I have to do it in order too.

Ugh...

Mom fell last night and has a cracked rib. Considering she's 75, it's lucky that it wasn't worse. She also has a UTI, which probably weakened her and that could be why she fell. I know she'd been really tired, I should've guessed she might have some sort of infection. She just called to tell me. This means she probably isn't driving me to PT next week. Poor mom. I hope she rests up. It's very hard to get her to take it easy, but it seems like her body is overriding that.

Had to go back to the guy who took out my back molar. I was having persistent pain and light bleeding. He filled the gap with some putty-like stuff and gave me another prescription for Lortabs.

My generic Lortabs with insurance were less than $3 for eight pills. No wonder we're having an opiate epidemic, that's cheaper than Mad Dog 20/20. Granted, Lortabs are not that strong compared to some.

Yesterday my next-door neighbor stopped me before I drove off to tell me that she'd been robbed. She's had this big yellow moving truck in her backyard for ages. Yesterday, someone waited for her to leave the house and then they towed it. So that's not a spur of the moment crime, they had to drag it out of there.

Not only that, but she told me the truck was full of about $5000 worth of craft supplies. (I've been in her house, they're hoarders.) So she lost a truck that in theory could've provided income for her children (she and her husband are older and disabled), plus a lot of general stuff.

And now I'm worried about people staking out my house.

Mammograms, sharks and T-shirts

Tuesday I went in for another mammogram, since my right boob has very dense breast tissue and they could not get a reading. this lead to a two-hour visit which ended with an ultrasound. Everything's okay, but they want to put me through this a few times, since it's so hard to read and will make home self-checks hard.

After that, I went to my favorite combo Asian grocery and restaurant. After a nice dinner, I went to the grocery part and took a look at the seafood. This place has live eels, live turtles, ect. But I was offended aand grossed out by two not-live, gutted sharks. They were about a foot or so, and gray with white underneath. Not sure what type, but I wasn't happy. I love sharks. I was thinking "For SHAME", but what can you do? I just wound up buying my barley tea and moving on.

Today and yesterday, I've been going to the Dollar Trees around town to get t-shirts. I've been going to NOW meetings, and we're doing the Clothesline Project, a protest/art installation about sexual assault. I was put in charge of buying the shirts and clothespins. And let me tell you, the Eastlake Dollar Tree is God's Own Dollar Store-I will be back.

anybody still around? Let's get this going. I've already moved my zillah_slash fic lj here. And since basically lj was just me and the 5-10 people still there that talked to me, this isn't such a big loss.

Fun stuff

Got this from [livejournal.com profile] dine, Name your favorite movies starting from the year you were born. She did five, I'm gonna do 1970-1980. Since this is me, expect a generous dose of horror movies and campy stuff.

1970 M*A*S*H, Daughters of Darkness

1971 Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

1972 Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things-see what happens when you haven't seen the Godfather all the way through?

1973 The Exorcist, Charlotte's Web

1974 Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, Female Trouble, Phantom of the Paradise (I'm on a roll now)

1975 Jaws, The Rocky Horror Picture Show (even though I'm sick of it now), Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Dog Day Afternoon

1976 Alice, Sweet Alice, Carrie, Harlan County, USA*, Taxi Driver

1977 Star Wars

1978 Animal House, Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band-yes, with the Bee Gees and Pete Frampton. So terrible it's a must-see. Also, 1978 is kind of a dry year.

1979 The Muppet Movie, Rock n' Roll High School

1980 The Empire Strikes Back, The Blues Brothers, Caddyshack, The Shining

*Note about Harlan County: I think the way I saw it should get a special mention. I watched it at a house party for the local Socialist Worker's Pary 4th of July celebration. That added something for sure-every now and then one of the party members would see someone on screen and say "oh yeah, I knew her".

There's a lot I still need to see. Some of this stuff I would see on TV when I was young and dismiss it as 'grown-up movies'. A lot of this stuff I saw as a kid or teenager.

Had a nice Christmas

I got some good presents, one of the best being this new ergonomic keyboard that is the reason my left hand isn't numb. I also got a bitchin' immersion blender/small chopper combo. And a whole bunch of other things, which is great. I love to get lots of small things.

When we got there, my sister was visibly not interested in being there. It made me angry at first, then I told myself it wasn't me most likely, but her being upset since it was our first Christmas without Dad. She warmed up a bit as the day went on.

Mom is doing okay, but she said nobody came to see her Christmas Eve. She gets frustrated at my sister as well, but there's not much I can do about that. My nephew was great, and he was actually interested in the book I got him. The book was The Catcher In the Rye, and he said "Oh, there's lots of Quiz Bowl questions about this!" (He's captain of his Quiz Bowl team at school.) So he's going to read it, yay!

Then we get home and learn that George Michael had died. One after another this year, but I had not expected that.

H/C bingo this year:

My hc_bingo card )

I like this background better than last years. I also like most of the prompts, only a few being not to my taste. I haven't finished one of these in years, but I still enjoy them.

I made an appointment to see my back doc next week. I am still not clear to drive, walk much, or bend. So I spend a lot of time sitting or lying. The hardest part is keeping my feet and back in the proper positions. I need a footrest. Like a lot of people in the lower-middle income (or lower) bracket, we don't buy much furniture, instead getting it from other people or occasionally the sidewalk. But I think in this case we could go to Goodwill and get an ottoman.

It's boring. I wish people would visit me, but they don't do that much in the best of times. I was talking to my mom and said "Somebody get fuckin' R"-"(A cousin's wife)-to come visit me, I could use the company, I like her." To which my mom said "she's having hip replacement surgery next week!"

I mean, really. My dad is having surgery next week too. What did we do? I know we didn't do anything but exist, but still.

You'd think i'd be writing more but I'm not. Maybe it's the painkillers-they're great for not doing anything. But nope, eking out a few hundred words a night is all. Maybe I'll finish that original short story I started in March.

Oh, and last week I told mom not to leave dad at home and come sit with me in the hospital, that I'd be okay, and she got irritated by that. Tonight, she told me she was going to spend a few days at my aunt Carole's so she'll be closer to the hospital. Oh well.
