Dec. 9th, 2009 02:33 am[Error: unknown template qotd]Yes, and yes. There's so much attention paid to the two person romantic relationship, and also a belief in society that everyone wants children. These two assumptions can make for a lot of awkward conversations.
I'm married to a man, and don't have or want kids. I do get nosy or unbeliving questions a lot. Nobody seems to think that we're for real. And we are a hetero couple, think if we were the same sex. Or if I was single. Or poly. It's such a simple thing, I just don't want kids. But it's a little too much for some folks.
Of course, some people can't handle it because I don't use my husband's last name either.
