Writer's Block: All Dressed Up
Sep. 2nd, 2009 07:31 pm[Error: unknown template qotd]Hmmm. In high school it was probably my black dress. I wore it to school two, three times a week. It could be worn belted with flats, for a conservative look. Or, I would wear it flowing with a Dead Kennedys or R.E.M t-shirt over it, with sneakers. It was my fallback, default outfit and I wore the shit out of it. It made me feel both invisible and easily recognized-I was the Girl In the Black Dress.
When out of school, I had my "Mike Monroe" look-a white poofy shirt with black and white lace, worn with black pants (fake leather if I had it), and boots. The affect that man had on my life from 14 to 25 can almost not be overestimated. For clubbing, I had a tiny sundress with a floral print that looked really weird under club lights.
Since I work in a grocery store and wear a uniform, I overdress on days off. If we're going anywhere, and even if we're not, I might be in silk, satin, or velvet. Or a combination of any of those!
