They'd been filming. That was it. Filming the Na Na Na video, gotten to the showdown scene, Grant holding Grace as she struggled, while he watched from the ground. Take after take after take to get it right, get the mood he wanted, get the scene perfect.

And then set up for the fallen Killjoys, all of them lying down, playing dead. He'd called action, and then...

And then what? He groaned, pushing himself up, looking around for the crew, the trailer, the reassuring paraphernalia of filming.

Barren landscape and sand blowing in a chilling breeze were all that met his eyes. "Shit..."

"Where'd everybody go?" Frank asked, still sounding way too calm for Gerard's piece of mind.

Gerard shook his head, turning in a slow circle. No evidence of the activity of filming. No trailers, no cameras, no craft services, nothing. Just a set of tracks leading up to where his band members lay, and another across from them, leading off into the desert.

It was such horrible news to read about Chester Bennington. While I've never been fannish about them, Linkin Park have always been a band I've enjoyed and loved. Hybrid Theory has been one of my most favourite albums for a very long time, and while their later works didn't hit the spot so hard, I still enjoyed them all, and looked forward to every new release. And now Chester's gone. My thoughts are with his family and friends, and all who loved him.

In a complete subject change. I've seen Dunkirk, the new Spiderman and Planet of the Apes films lately. I enjoyed them all in very different ways. I saw Dunkirk in the imax yesterday, and my ears were ringing coming out. It's a film with a heck of an emotional impact, and have to admit to being impressed with Harry and his acting.

Last Sunday I went to the christening of my youngest niece and nephew. James was at work so it was just me and Corey taking on the roles of Godparents. It was a nice enough day, a bit chaotic at the party afterwards, but that was always going to be the case with so many kids going.

Corey's had a bit of a nightmare with his house. The owners have had it up for sale for nearly a year now, but the letting agents have said all along that it was being sold with the understanding it came with tenants living there, and they'd be able to stay until the end of their third year. Sadly it didn't end up like that, and a fortnight ago they were told they had to be out by the end of next month.

Thankfully they've managed to find another house. It's a bit cheaper, but another ten minutes walk away from Corey's main uni building, so he's got a half hour walk unless he buys a cheap metro ticket. And of course there's another set of admin fees and deposits to pay. He should get his damage deposit back from the house they're in now, but I suspect the agents are going to pull a fast one and say damage has happened.

Yesterday I was at a travel agents asking about holidays as we're planning on going abroad next year. The lady we talked to was so good, I told her I'd never been abroad, James had only been to France and neither of us had flown, so we had no idea where to go. So she showed us a few options, gave a few ideas, and now we need to narrow things down a little before going back. I still can't believe we're doing it, like I told her yesterday, it feels like the world is opening up to me, and that's so cool.

I've just posted the story I started for picfor1000 and then abandoned for another idea. As it's a picfor1000 it's Gerard and Mikey centric, a bit of fluff, and has lots of talk about Muppets. It's Time to Play the Music.

ETA: I knew I'd forgotten something. We've bought tickets for Chase Park a music festival that's set up so people with disabilities can attend easily. There's no one well known playing, but it's local, the tickets are cheap, and I think it's going to be a great day.

Chester Bennington

1976-2017

I just heard about it this morning, and...goddamn. It's just heartbreaking. I can only hope that Chester finds peace where he couldn't in life.

Author's Notes: Call this a personal challenge to myself to make something involving Poe and Kylo...well, dark. I don't know if this is dark enough, but hopefully it works.

WATCHING

*Everyone's all GoT OMGGGGGGGGG but I no longer have HBO so I'm reading spoilers on eveyrone's posts.

* Began binge-watching THE NIGHT WATCH on Netflix and LOVE IT. While I don't think it has the depth of ER, my standard bearer for fantastic medical dramas, I like the energy of the writing. It's set in San Antonio, someone has actually put in some time to get cultural and geographical references correct, and the staff is wonderfully representational. ALL the pretty people! There's a CANON GAY COUPLE WOOOOOOOOOO! Jennifer Beals played a medic!! I am enjoying it thoroughly.

* SHADOWHUNTERS is back as is my jam, Izzie Lightwood (see icon pic). Emeraude Toubia, the actor, is SO STUNNING and she's A TEXAN and she SINGS and just yes. Magnus and Alex are still my favorite TV couple. While I eschewed everything Cassandra Claire for years, and with good reason, this is removed enough from the books that I began watching. You can't just give me Mike Chang from GLEE as a bisexual, kickass warlock and expect me to pass that up. I am not made of stone.

* Rachel Maddow- always and forever. Her ratings are now apparently higher than her competitors? SO PROUD OF HER. Most trustworthy lesbian in news. Everyone says, now officially. :-)

* We also binge-watched ZOO, which ended up being really great, but the current season is leaving me kind of meh. They did away with my favorite het OTP, and now Bella Swan's Dad Billy Burke can't call them hilarious things like 'Danny and Sandy' or 'Ken and Barbie', which they really looked like, and that makes me sad.

FILMS

* BUTTER/Netflix- Jennifer Garner's turn as a shallow, driven Repub wife of a butter sculptor is SUPERIOR and FANTASTICALLY FUNNY. The cast on this is perfect, including a surprise cameo by Hugh Jackman as a Stetson wearing hapless car salesman.

*THEY CALL ME JEEG/Netflix- Italian Foreign film that will twist your heart all inside out in the best way. Just watch it.

* AFTERNOON DELIGHT/Crackle- I didn't know I had a Juno Temple thing until this film. Funny, true, sad and angry look at a Thirtysomething Crisis and what Kathryn Hahn's Rachel does to find meaning in her measured, suburbia paradise world. Jane Lynch as a self-absorbed therapist is worth the price of admission.

RANDOM

* CAN YOU BELIEVE DR. WHO IS A CHICK NOW?????
* HAVE YOU SEEN THE NEW WRINKLE IN TIME TRAILOR???

WORK

* Despite the start of fiscal year rollover clusterfuck, I still love what I'm doing a real lot. :-)

* Went to San Antonio for the Texas Library Association Annual Assembly Conference which was great, except we got a crack in our new car windshield before the vehicle even had it's first oil change. *sigh* D got it 'glazed' for about $40 which was preferable to the $400 to replace the whole thing. You can still totally see it, but maybe it will act as an urban theft deterrent. Poor Pearl, already banged up!

POLITICS

*Ugh it just won't stop being embarrassing and awful and cringe-worthy. I don't think I've ever, ever, in all my 50 years, been as horrified to be an American, let alone a Texan. As much as I love my job, and I really love my job, y'all, I would leave for up North if I had any way to make a living. At least we'd be in a more progressive state where I would not be worried about putting a rainbow flag on my door or a Democratic Party sign on my lawn for fear of being liberal-bashed.

So these are turning out to be mostly what TV I'm watching but I'm not sure that's a bad thing.

I leave you with a song I heard on NIGHT SHIFT, which, apart from being wonderful, has a music department that has some serious chops. I have had this on repeat for days because it is just that fantastic. The Van Morrison original is luminous, but I just love Otto's voice on this. The horns are EVERYTHING.

Have a great week, gente.

Talk at you soon.

"Admit it Frankie, your ideas for naming diseases are shit."

"Because your ideas are always so awesome, yeah?" Frank shoots back. "Who thought it was a good idea to kill all firstborns in Egypt, huh?"

"Oh for - Frank, that was forever ago!"

"Don't make me bring up the dinosaurs."

Gerard looks guilty for a moment. "They never proved that was me."

Frank jumps up and points. "HA! I knew it was you, you fucker. Those things were cool."

"I didn't mean to. Besides, it worked out. The humans and stuff."
